If you want something bady enough, you can have it. But it requires a combination of focus and effort. You can’t just sit and hope to become a millionaire, you must proactively develop objectives, strategies and tactics. You can’t explore a new city without a tour guide or GPS. You can’t achieve a goal without a plan. And the best way to grow is to continue learning and expanding your horizons.
Knowledge is power. Education without action is entertainment. And learning is easier than it has ever been. Although my degree is in Sociology and Psychology, my career has been in sales. University is a great starting point for any career, but no one is a natural born salesperson, you must learn, practice and perfect the art of sales. My reading list evolved over the years from sales to leadership to marketing to self help.
In the words of Dale Carnegie, “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what get what you’ve always got”. Or as my sister says – the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Sales has changed over the years and you must adapt by using LinkedIn or creating branded websites, or tweeting. But some of the basics remain true today.
